For my Pepakura object, I scanned my boot using iSense and then reduced the polygon count in Maya. I use booleans to cut the shape of the sole of the boot out. I made my boot 35 inches tall with white paper.

Lecture by Mwangi Hutter
Lecture One:
For one of
my lectures, I went to the lecture by Mwangi Hutter on April 26 at the Scugham
Engineering and Mining building. Mwangi Hutter is the name of an artist couple
from Africa with one artistic personality. In their work, they like to touch
upon ideas of interconnectivity between people with an idea of a “social body,
working together and continentally” (Mwangi Hutter). This idea is also shared
in the way the couple have joined their identity to form Mwangi Hutter.
During the
lecture, she (husband wasn’t there) talked about their work, showing several
images and brief videos of some of their work. One incuded was a series of
images called “Burning Desire to be Touched”. The artist pair work with a
variety of media from paint to video. They use sound in most of their works,
which is made using the voice of the wife. She also touched upon an art exhibit
they are currently working on called “Not a Single Story” that is made in a
field in Africa using metal boxes, rope and sound. Overall they have over 300
works collectively.
I found
their work interesting, though I did not particularly like all of their works
that they displayed at the lecture.
